We offer mentoring within the community and at our specialist Hub for children and young people with a wide range of differing needs. Our sessions are adapted to suit the needs and interests of each individual, offering a bespoke, person-centred approach to engage, motivate, and create positive outcomes.
Our highly trained staff can use a wide range of communication methods, and recognise that building confidence is key to creating positive outcomes. By challenging young people to stretch themselves in a safe, supportive environment, we allow them to make tangible progress towards their future aspirations.
We recognise the importance of play, creativity, and sensory exploration, and sessions will contain these elements, adapted to each young person’s requirements.

Our pathways
We incorporate the following four pathways into our sessions, ensuring that we prepare young people to embrace their next steps and realise their full potential.
We approach learning in a creative manner, turning everyday activities into learning opportunities. English and maths are built into everything we do in real-life ways, giving meaning and purpose to learning in a functional way.
Staff can also support young people to explore their hopes for the future, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to prepare them for their next steps, and then supporting them to explore them.
We support young people to understand, build, and maintain positive relationships, and to realise the reciprocal benefits of being part of their communities.
At BBCare10, we understand that friendships and community are integral to leading fulfilling lives, and how they help to build self-worth, identity and connection.
We want young people to be able to lead lives that are as independent as possible. We can support the development of any practical skills young people may need, from budgeting to managing home, and money management to travel training.
These skills are developed alongside the building of their communication skills, confidence and resilience, so that they can self-advocate and make their thoughts, needs and wishes known.
We want young people to be as physically and mentally healthy as possible, and to lead active lives. We access a wide range of community facilities to promote the benefits of physical exercise, and understand how physical and mental health are inextricably linked. Young people learn about food and nutrition, and how to build and maintain a healthy diet.
Young people are supported to understand, recognise, and manage their emotions, using a wide range of strategies personal to them. Staff build trusting relationships with young people so they can explore who they are and build self awareness in a safe, nurturing space. They are taught how to keep themselves safe, and to know what support they can access if they need it.
Mentoring with BBCare10 is about each and every young person being given the skills, support and opportunities to grow and become their best selves, understanding who they are, and aspiring to lives that ultimately are rich, meaningful and happy.
We are proud of our approach, treating each young person as a valued individual with boundless potential, and putting kindness and care at the heart of everything we do.
OUR sessions
Our mentoring sessions are adapted to suit the needs of the individual, and we use a range of strategies to create positive outcomes.
During the initial meeting, our management team will match a mentor to the individual who’s skill set will best suit their needs, to ensure the best possible experience.
Functional Skills
With functional skills we can incorporate basic reading, writing and Maths into everyday activities to build on skills while still being within a relaxed environment without the pressure of formal education.
Life Skills
If a child/ young person needs support in life skills we base activities around them, for example- Budgeting, Shopping, Cooking, building on self confidence, managing emotions and learning new ways of overcoming challenging emotions. We use positive encouragement and praise to build on confidence and self worth, and the resilience to overcome barriers.
Future Planning
We support individuals to think about their future goals, such as what further education opportunities are available to them, or if appropriate what career path interests them, and we use this to build a picture of what our sessions can include that will support the individual to work towards this. Our staff members can support individuals to gather information, look for suitable opportunities and develop skills to support with future opportunities.
Sensory Play
We can support with sensory sessions to encourage exploring different textures, smells, sounds to encourage the individual to try new experiences. Sensory play can help us encourage creativity and work on resilience to new textures/smells and sounds etc.
Independence
We promote independence as much as the individual is able during our mentoring sessions, lots of positive encouragement and praise are used to open up opportunities and the confidence to try new things. Independence can be scary, especially for individuals with additional learning needs, which is why our staff team are trained to prompt, support and encourage independence.
Physical Activities
Outdoor activities are a great way of building strength and endurance. Which can have a naturally calming effect, a way to burn off some energy. This can also be great to learn how to channel any negative thoughts and feelings/emotions and use this for a positive experience. We make use of the local facilities such as leisure centres, parks and local skate parks/outdoor gym spaces for sessions for individuals who enjoy this activity.
Confidence
We firmly believe that confidence is the key to success. We support children/young people to be confident in everything that they do, which is why our staff members always encourage, promote and most of all celebrate every success, every attempt, every thought about trying something new. We work with individuals to try things they have never tried before to challenge themselves, transitioning to a new setting can be difficult, but confidence building is a way to make this process slightly easier.
Communication
Communication is unique to each and every individual and finding ways to adapt this to an individuals needs is something our staff are trained to do. Our staff use the first initial visit to gauge the communication method that works best for the individual and builds on this. Our staff have experience using AAC devices, communication cards, Makaton, eye gaze devices and more! Our staff are also experienced in assessing how best to get the most for individuals, and optimising communication is incredibly important.
