ABOUT

My name is Nikki.

I am a mum to three children, Corey, Lexi and my beautiful angel, Brody.

Brody was born with complex needs. He was given little chance of surviving for long. Despite the poor prognosis he was given, we had ten years with Brody. Ten beautiful, glorious, tearful, heart wrenching, joyful, stressful years. Through hospital stays and sleepless nights and alarming machines I learnt to care for my happy, smiley, cheeky little monkey.

It has been a complete rollercoaster. And, asides from Brody deciding his time on earth was up and that he had fulfilled his purpose here in his physical body, I wouldn’t change a thing.

People who have no experience of additional needs will talk about quality of life.

I’ve lived the life and walked the walk. I understand that those with care needs are more than capable of living a life filled with magic and joy. Yes, there will be hurt, and things will sometimes go wrong. But, that’s life.

For all of us. Having additional needs does not make a life any less meaningful. In fact, I believe that these special people can bring so much more to the lives of all they touch.

It is precisely these reasons, along with my values and beliefs, that inspired me to set up my own care company after I lost my little boy. After growing our client list and recruiting staff members we have been able to offer our unique bespoke care packages to those in need.

Being able to support families is really important to us. We know first-hand just how rewarding and full of joy it can be, but on the flip side, how stressful and tiring it is - especially in a system that doesn’t appear to make life any easier when you are caring for someone you love and trying to get the help and support you need to do this well.
BBcare10 was set up in memory of my son Brody who passed away at the age of 10.

Brody was the life of the party and he made it very clear he was centre of attention!

Brody's life was lived to the fullest despite all the hospital stays we did. His infectious smile would light up the darkest of rooms and lift any dark mood.

Despite his short time here, along with his additional needs, Brody just had so much love to give out to everyone who ever met him. He was a cheeky monkey, who would bite chunks out of his fingers when he thought no one was looking!

I wanted to set up BBcare10 because I know how difficult it was to find a carer that fitted in with all of Brody’s need. As a mum, I needed to know that Brody was safe and well cared for so that I could have that hour respite knowing that was my hour; to have a bubble bath, a coffee, get some sleep! Because having that respite wasn’t just for Brody, it was for me too.

Having time out, because I had been up for the last three days, to recharge my battery. Being able to take my daughter to her trampoline lessons. I could do these things knowing that Brody was in safe hands, and that I didn’t have to do this by myself.

I know how easy it can be to lose yourself, because with complex care you become the nurse, the doctor, dietitian, everything on top of being mum! Respite care is as much about you as it is about your loved one too. It’s a chance to feel like you again, and that is how we help.

I understand how important it is to find the right person to support you – someone who ‘gets you’ and the situation you are in; who can fit in with your family and help smooth the journey as best as possible; who you can trust implicitly to care for your child, sibling, partner with the same attention, care and compassion that you do.

My mission is to do just that. And so much more. Whether it’s someone to listen to you, a shoulder to cry on or advice and support in getting the help you need, we are here to help ease the load.

So please reach out and let's have a conversation. We are here to help you.
