ALTERNATIVE PROVISION

Our bespoke SEND provision, based at our Hub in the Forest of Dean, provides a personalised curriculum for young people with a wide range of needs who are not currently accessing education.  Our provision has a specialist range of indoor and outdoor facilities, offering versatility and a vast array of learning opportunities.

We offer mentoring and tuition, delivered through a holistic, person-centred approach. We tailor our curriculum to ensure that all our young people have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to embrace their next steps in life, whatever they may be.

Our Curriculum

Initially, we carry out a wide range of baseline assessments to provide clear starting points for every young person, in order to track and monitor their progress accurately. Sessions are then individually planned to meet both the educational and personal needs of each young person.

Learning covers the following four areas, offering a broad approach to prepare young people for fulfilling and meaningful futures.

LEARNING & WORK SKILLS

To be able to play, learn, work, and achieve their full potential. To aspire to reach their goals and realise their dreams. To understand the steps they need to take to be successful in work or education, and to develop resilience and a positive attitude towards challenges and opportunities that may arise as they grow into adult life.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

To be ready for living as independently as possible. To gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to manage daily life, make informed choices and take responsibility. To develop problem-solving abilities and resilience, know how to self-advocate, and be able to find appropriate support to help them overcome obstacles and achieve independence.

RELATIONSHIPS & COMMUNITY

To be able to communicate clearly, make choices, build and maintain friendships, and contribute positively to their communities. To understand the importance of connection, kindness and respect for others. To develop confidence and know how to stay safe, seek support, and recognise healthy and unhealthy relationships.

GOOD HEALTH & WELLBEING

To be as healthy as possible, physically, mentally, and emotionally. To be active, resilient, and able to seek help when facing difficulties. To understand the importance of good food and nutrition, and how social and emotional health are connected. To enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and to find activities that support long-term wellbeing and personal development.

Maths and English are strongly interwoven into all aspects of our curriculum, offering a practical approach and real-life relevance to all learning. Young people are immersed in a language-rich environment, and we can meet a wide range of communication needs. Students have the opportunity to learn through play, creativity, practical approaches, sensory exploration, and more traditional methods, all dependent on their individual requirements.

Our curriculum is also thematic, offering a range of themes over the academic year that ensure that students develop their understanding of the wider world, and how that connects with and shapes their personal and cultural identities.

Opportunities

We offer many opportunities for creative enrichment, community engagement, and outdoor learning. Young people can work towards the National Outdoor Learning Award (NOLA), which offers a skills-based approach to personal development through outdoor learning experiences. We also offer the Join In Award Scheme (JAS) which offers personalised experiences and achievement through 3 levels of award, combining personal interests, physical activities, outdoor activities and community projects.

Values

As well as a bespoke curriculum, each young person is respected and celebrated as an individual, and supported to explore and realise their hopes for the future, breaking down barriers and misconceptions in order to self-advocate and fully realise their true potential. We foster a values-based approach, embedded in kindness and built on a foundation of strong and meaningful relationships. Our staff bring a depth and breadth of experience into a safe and nurturing space, allowing young people to self-realise, thrive, and ultimately flourish.
